MY TAKE: NOW SOME STATES WANT TO JOIN CANADA -- REALLY EH?

Well, being a U.S. as well as a Canadian citizen (having lived in Toronto most of my adult life), I know a thing or two about the pros and cons of seceding from the “greatest country in the world” and affiliating with the “most civilized nation” on the planet.

If these Democrat-dominant northeastern states’ reason for making the switch is merely because they do not like the dawning of a new political climate under a Trump Presidency I’d say think again. Political winds, like the weather, are not constant — for one reason or another they change directions all the time.

Time was when Canada was run by the Conservatives before it became Progressive/Liberal, only to be replaced by the Conservative Party again, then Liberal once more up to the present time. And if you are not aware, there is a renewed sense of conservative resurgence in Canada alongside a strong gust to get rid of Justin Trudeau et al. Should that happen after the would-be secession of the New England States, the then newly-assimilated ‘American democrats’ will find their situation worse than awkward. What will they do then? Break away from Canada and rejoin the USA?

There has to be a really good and serious reason why any state would ever want to sever ties with the USA and join another country. But let’s face it, they don’t have any. That is because they don’t mean it. What they’re doing is nothing more than a knee jerk reaction to a really horrible loss to Trump and the GOP. Weird behavior that is no different from the unhinged celebrities who in two Presidential elections (2016, 2024) promised to leave the country and relocate to Canada and elsewhere if Trump wins. Well ‘the Donald’ did win on both occasions and those folks are still here. Secession? Nah, as they say, "it ain't happening".
